Jefferson Hayman is an American artist whose work explores themes of memory, nostalgia, and symbolism. Through a quiet, minimalist approach, he creates imagery that feels both intimate and universal, inviting viewers to participate in the narrative process on a deeply personal level.

With a background in fine arts and a foundation in traditional craftsmanship, Hayman blends artistic heritage with a contemporary sensibility. His photographs function as visual journals, meditations on transformation, solitude, and discovery - expressed through an understated vocabulary of visual symbols. Working in silver gelatin, platinum, and pigment prints, he achieves tonal delicacy reminiscent of early Pictorial photography, while also reflecting the modernist exploration of light and shadow.

His work is included in numerous public and private collections, among them the Museum of Modern Art Library, The Boston Athenaeum, The New York Public Library, as well as the collections of Sir Elton John and Robert De Niro. In 2015, Hayman was awarded the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant.

He lives and works in Nyack, New York, a historic riverfront village just minutes from Manhattan.
